Sutherland Estate is a boutique, family owned enterprise in Dixons Creek at the northern end of the Yarra Valley.
On 110 acres of largely undisturbed bush land there are four, small vineyard blocks, totaling approximately 10 acres. The blocks slope towards the South which, with the elevation of 200m ASL, accentuates the cool nature of the vineyard.
The meso climate of the site provides a longer than usual ripening season, which in turn produces wines of varietal intensity, together with good natural acidity, complexity and elegance.
In the winery its hand plunging in small open pots, a mix of wild and cultured yeasts, no artificial acid additions, minimal sulphur additions prior to bottling, and very careful decisions relating to oak type and use.
The wines have received numerous awards and medals. James Halliday has rated Sutherland Estate a red five star winery.
